The initial evaluation is a consultation process rather than a treatment session. It typically spans at least two sessions and often extends to four for a thorough assessment. This includes two sessions with the child or teen, one with the caregivers, and a joint session with the child/teen and caregivers.
After completing the evaluation, we will provide tailored treatment recommendations. These may include approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Exposure Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), often supplemented by psychotherapy assignments between sessions.
If our proposed approach resonates with your needs and preferences, we would be honored to work with you. If you decide to pursue a different treatment path, we fully support your decision and prioritize your well-being. With your written consent, we are happy to share our evaluation findings with your new therapist to ensure a smooth transition.
Most initial evaluations are conducted face-to-face in a familiar regional park where we have been working for years. The outdoor setting provides space, walking, and connection with nature, which often accelerates the evaluation process far more effectively than sitting in an office.
Once the four-session assessment phase is complete, we can explore transitioning to Zoom sessions or a hybrid model combining face-to-face and Zoom, depending on what best supports the therapeutic process. However, it’s important to note that Zoom can sometimes make it harder to read emotions, and for many kids and teens, it offers additional opportunities for distraction.
Weekly sessions are scheduled to ensure therapeutic consistency and effectiveness, with flexibility to accommodate both our schedules. If a scheduling conflict arises or we are unavailable, you will be promptly notified and added to a waitlist if necessary.
To avoid charges, a 48-hour notice is required for session cancellations. If we are able to fill the slot at the last minute, no cancellation fee will be applied, even with less than 48 hours’ notice. If we miss or need to cancel an appointment, you will not be charged.
60-Minute Weekly Sessions: Effective if your child or teen commits to 20 minutes of therapy practice each day. While this is standard, key turning points—where deeper issues arise and shifts begin—typically happen around the 60-minute mark.
90-Minute Sessions (Recommended at Bedrocktherapies): Ideal for reaching deeper issues and navigating key turning points. These longer sessions provide the extra time needed to ensure progress is sustained and clients experience meaningful breakthroughs.
Extended Sessions (2+ Hours): Allow more time to dive into deeper issues, making them ideal for clients who need extra time to process and reflect during the session.
Intensive Sessions (3-5 Hours per Day, 10-20 Hours in Two Weeks): Best for clients who need rapid progress or struggle with daily therapy practice at home. Intensive sessions can bring about quicker, lasting change by focusing deeply on issues over a condensed period. This approach can reduce overall treatment time and potentially lower costs by accelerating recovery.
Varies by Need: Therapy length depends on the individual needs of your child or teen.
Short-Term (Mild Symptoms): Typically involves 10 sessions plus the initial 4-session evaluation.
Long-Term: More complex challenges may take 6-12 months or longer.
Initial Estimate: After the initial evaluation (4 sessions), we can provide a more accurate estimate based on your unique circumstances.
Thank you for trusting us with your child’s or teen’s therapeutic journey. We look forward to partnering with you to support their well-being and growth.
