It’s understandable to think that therapy might be a sign of weakness, but that’s an outdated view. Think about it—have you ever hired an accountant, lawyer, personal trainer, or doctor? That’s because we all need expertise in areas where we’re not specialists. Therapy works the same way. It’s not about weakness; it’s about seeking support to improve and grow.
While self-help books, talking to friends, working out, or practicing yoga can help in the short term, they don't address deeper, longer-term change. In our culture, it’s easy to fall into habits like reaching for a drink, turning on Netflix, or simply pushing through because it feels familiar and avoids vulnerability. But vulnerability is essential for real transformation.
Were you taught about how the mind, emotions, nervous system, behaviors, and communication work? These are the foundations of who we are, but they often aren’t part of the standard education. Once we start working on the internal world, the external challenges don’t have as much control over us and our nervous system. Therapy is about taking the time to explore and understand those deeper layers of ourselves.
Medication can be helpful for some people, but it's important to consider that relying solely on medication means not addressing the deeper, internal factors that influence our well-being. While medication is crucial for some, such as those dealing with conditions like bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, it is not the only solution.
Based on years of experience working with individuals facing severe mental health challenges, we’ve found that a more integrative approach is often the most effective. This includes medication (when needed), evidence-based therapies, support from others, a sense of community, and contributing to society in meaningful ways. We do not prescribe medication, but we work closely with psychiatrists and can refer you to one if medication is something you’d like to explore.
In many cases, therapy alone can be effective, and we’re here to help you explore the best options for your unique needs.
Having an idea of what you would like to work on helps, and there’s going to be invitations to work on specific issues that you bring up. We're your guide but ultimately you have to choose what you’d like to change, improve on or face. There is a teamwork aspect to this type of therapy and you can rely on our guidance to find a path that fits your goals.
The duration of therapy varies widely based on individual, couple, or family needs. Mild issues may be resolved in a few sessions, while more severe difficulties may require persistent work over several months. Predicting the exact duration is challenging, but after the intake, we can provide a better estimate based on your specific circumstances.
We are so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication to at least 20 minutes a day of practice work will be crucial to your success.
